To be able to enter the contest you need to go to http://www.hmvunderground.ca/ AND (this is a sneaky part) scroll down the window where you will see the “Straight to PRIZES Enter PASSWORD” and a textboxs for the password. I do not know why they tried to make it so complicated but it took me a while to figure out this step. Then you need to request one or try to using mine (I don’t think I makes any difference).

Known internationally as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Bon Jovi has also confirmed their attendance in the line-up for Idol’s Sept. 11 finale, which also features pop-punker Avril Lavigne and last year’s Canadian Idol, Eva Avila. It will the band’s first-ever appearance on Canadian television.

“There are few acts today that embody success and longevity in the music business like Bon Jovi,” said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming, when making the announcement.

“Sharing their immeasurable experience with the Top 2 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the finalists, and gracing our stage for the finale will be an incredible thrill for our viewers.”

Songwriter/producer Ed Pettersen helped put the package together, and he enlisted an eclectic group of artists that includes John Mellencamp, Devendra Banhart, Martha Wainwright, Andrew Bird, Danielson, John Wesley Harding and Marah to cover songs from America’s past.

“The historical detail of the songs fascinated me and I suggested that Ed [Pettersen] record a whole album of songs focusing on key periods in American history in order to tell our story to young people who might find joy in learning history through music,” says Reno of the concept.

The Song Of America will be released by Split Rock Records/31 Tigers on Sept. 18. Here are its tracks:
